Natural and Native Window

This stunning Banksia timber screen from Bonnie and Neil sets the scene for winter noir.

The Window Project at The English Tapware Company is this season exploring materiality, drawing inspiration from the raw beauty and unique sculptural qualities of Australian native flora.

Central to the Sydney window, the stunning Banksia timber screen from Bonnie and Neil sets the scene for winter noir.  Its dark moody tones and hinged divisions suggest the possibility of voyeurism - peeping through to the opulence and warmth of the bathing space which is enhanced by the richness of the brass tapware and fittings.

The choice of bare brass echoes the rawness of the Australian landscape and minerality of the outback which spawns an unexpected diversity of plant life – striking foliage and flowers in forms and colours which seem to contradict but also complement the harshness of the environment.

The Banksia wreath on the Bonnie and Neil screen is a beloved plant which has many forms but is easily recognisable as belonging to its genus by its characteristic flower spikes and fruiting cones.  Similarly, The English Tapware Company represents enduring brands whose products are easily distinguished by their timeless designs, balance of form and ability to outlast and outperform others.
