Joseph Giles - Scala Hardware Collection

The stepped form of the Scala Range is inspired by both Italian architect Carlo Scarpa’s geometric schemes and the jewellery designer Malaika Carr.

Michaelis Boyd, award-winning architecture and interior design studio, and Joseph Giles, leading designers and manufacturers of luxury architectural ironmongery, partnered to create an exclusive range of lever handles, door pulls and cabinet handles.

The stepped form of the Scala Range is inspired by both Italian architect Carlo Scarpa’s geometric schemes and the jewellery designer Malaika Carr. All the components are made from the finest grade solid brass and the Scala range is available in a split finish to highlight the stepped detail. Each section is available in all Joseph Giles signature finishes.

Scarpa’s knowledge of materiality shone through with a skill to combine a base material with a precious one. Two material finishes were introduced to highlight this relationship between solid mass and the delicate skill gone into forging the pieces.

The discrete rose-less mechanism seamlessly extends out from the door into the two-tone stepped handle. Michaelis Boyd wanted to create a range that drew the eye to the junctions and invites the touch, adding an element of curiosity into how the handles have been made, and finally embracing the sheer craftsmanship employed to accomplish the design.

It is fitting then that the word Scala, the Italian for stairs, was adopted as the range’s name.

All Kelly Hoppen designs are MADE TO ORDER.
