Joseph Giles Leather Collection

The English Tapware Company is proud to announce the release of beautiful handcrafted leather hardware collections by UK based company Joseph Giles.

The finest quality bridle leather is applied by highly skilled and experienced craftsmen to create unique and timeless designs. Furthermore, the leather is both sustainably and ethically sourced. The gorgeous handles are also hand stitched and leather wrapped for an authentic and personalized finish.

The range includes six beautiful colourways to suit any interior scheme: Dark Brown, Antique Brown, Dark Tan, Black, Antique Black and Warm Grey.

Joseph Giles has been influenced by its strong British heritage and this is certainly evident in the leather collections. With rich, masculine tones, this hardware will add a layer of warmth and luxury to both contemporary and traditional interiors.

The leather will age naturally over time developing its own individual character. Each piece will have varying levels of surface shine depending on the environment and usage.

Bridle leather is both practical and beautiful, differing from regular leather, as both the flesh and grain sides of the cow hide are treated with greases and finished with wax, making the leather incredibly hardwearing, pliable and smooth to touch.

Each leathered item you receive has been stitched with meticulous attention to detail, with a quality that can be seen and felt.

THE COLLECTIONS

SEFTON

A fine example of British craftsmanship – the ‘Sefton’ leather strap handles are handmade using the finest bridle leather which has been dyed all the way through to produce a deep and lasting colour. The edges are burnished for the perfect finish and to prevent fraying.

THURLOE

Inspired by leather wrapped handlebars found on vintage bikes; the perfect marriage of beauty and practicality. The shape of the cabinet handle is tried and tested, but with the addition of leather wrapping elevates the piece to a new level of luxury and allows for a completely different experience. It was originally designed back in 2003 and is one of the first product designs. Today, it remains a popular choice for a range of design schemes.

ASCOT

This range was inspired by and takes its name from the Royal Ascot. It is renowned for its thoroughbred horse racing, and as such, is one of the most famous racecourses in the world.  To dress a horse properly in British tradition requires quality leather; any equestrian can attest to the use of this fine material in the stable.

IRVINE

The Irvine range pays homage to Scotland and its roots in culture and design. Glasgow is the largest Scottish city and is home to the Scottish Opera, the Scottish Ballet and the famed Glasgow School of Art, where many great designers are formed.

DARTINGTON

As a purveyor of luxury details, Joseph Giles understands that even the smallest elements matter.  Which is why the Dartington range is inspired by a small, but necessary detail:  the strap on a satchel.  Satchels, traditionally made from leather, have been a staple of fashion since the Roman times.

HOLMES

The ‘Holmes’ door pull handles are made from finest grade solid brass and all our signature finishes. The metal parts are made and finished by hand, and then the handle is carefully wrapped in bridle leather which is dyed all the way through to produce a deep and lasting colour.

CUBE

The ‘Cube’ Collection was designed almost two decades ago, in response to a gap in the market for architects, who, at the time, couldn’t find contemporary ironmongery that was both beautiful and practical. The ‘Cube’ persists as one of our most popular products and is a testament to Joseph Giles’ understanding of classic contemporary design.

BENNETT

With its construction beginning in 1675, the Royal Observatory in Greenwich has a long and established history in a modern world of time zones and clocks.  Commissioned by King Charles II, this observatory has a distinct royal heritage, with its famous time-ball fixture as a symbol of British pride and science.  The Bennett range is inspired by this feat, with its dome-like detail resting atop its handle; a mimicry of the famous Greenwich time-ball structure and telescopic dome.

BEDFORD

The ‘Bedford’ door pull handles are made from finest grade solid brass and are available in all our signature finishes. They come with a 10-year mechanical guarantee and are supplied as a pair for either glass or timber doors, and individually for single side applications.

MONTAGUE

The design was inspired by a vintage leather briefcase, this gentleman’s accessory is the epitome of sophistication. It was a beautiful example of how an item is designed for both beauty and practicality. We took this inspiration and applied it to a cabinet handle, using the same meticulous attention to detail on the threading, making it the focal point of the design.

JESSE

A fine example of British craftsmanship, the ‘Jesse II’ leather strap handles are handmade using bridle leather which is dyed all the way through to produce a deep and lasting colour. The edges are burnished for the perfect finish and to prevent any fraying.
